The story of Chelsea youngster Abdul Rahman Baba has been a rather disappointing one so far. The Ghanian arrived at Stamford Bridge with a lot of promise. The £22 million transfer Abdul Rahman Baba, in the summer of 2015, signaled a lot of hype across the African continent.
However, two years later, Baba is yet to find his feet in the Premier League and his future looks very uncertain, after failing to make a break-through in the starting lineup.
As per reports from German media, the Ghanian could once again switch back to his preferred Bundesliga this January, as former club FC Schalke are keen on bringing the youngster to the Veltins Arena.
Baba played for the Ruhr giants last season, when he was loaned out to the Bundesliga, after failing to impress in the Premier League. While he performed rather well, appearing in 21 competitive outings for FC Schalke, the Ghanian International picked up an injury in December 2016 and was eventually, ruled out for the rest of the season.
Considering the fact that the club has only one quality left back in the shape of Bastian Oczipka, head coach Domenico Tedesco might fancy of having someone like Abdul Rahman Baba at his disposal. But can the Blues afford to let him leave?
Following an impressive title-winning campaign, last season, Chelsea are facing some problems in their backline at the moment, with the likes of David Luiz reportedly unsettled after falling out with the manager. Furthermore, the defending champions of England are also looking for an upgrade to Marcos Alonso.
However, Antonio Conte is unlikely to use the former Greuther Furth defender anytime soon, with Juventus’ Alex Sandro attracting a lot of transfer interest from the Blues. Even though the Ghanian International, undoubtedly, has the talent to evolve as a top class fullback, it also seems unlikely that he will thrive in the Premier League.
Therefore, a move back to the Bundesliga seems like a logical decision not just for the player but the club itself. Chelsea could very well get rid of Abdul Rahman Baba in order to fund a move for more high profile players on the market, including Alex Sandro. The Juventus star could be a massive addition to the team, and the departure of Abdul Rahman Baba could play a key role in that transfer.
