Reports claim that Luka Modric might be unsettled in the current Real Madrid side, and is considering his options for a move away from the club.
The Croatian international is still a key figure in Zinedine Zidane’s side with 17 appearances in all competitions this season. However, t 32, he is already facing the later stages of his career and has to start adjusting to the decline in his athletic abilities.
Standing at 5 feet and 8 inches, Modric has been blessed with elite technical capabilities with a vision to single-handedly break down opposition defenses. His artistry with the ball cemented him as the leading man in the midfield position after Mesut Ozil’s exit from the Galacticos’ side. He has won 3 Champions League trophies, 1 La Liga title and 1 Copa Del Rey trophy in his 5 year stint at the club.
However, with the recent signings of Dani Ceballos and the accelerated progress of Marco Asensio and Isco, Modric might be fighting for game time in the future. He will be motivated to finish his career on a high and not find himself warming the bench behind younger teammates.
He arrived at Madrid in the summer of 2018 under Jose Mourinho, who will be delighted to reunite with the Croatian in Manchester United. The Portuguese manager implemented Modric into the 3 man midfield and was always his first choice back in his Madrid days. He is well aware of the talent and experience Modric brings to the table and will be inclined to pursue his services.
Serie A side, Inter Milan are also reported to be keen on signing the Croatian as they have already made an approach for a transfer in the summer of 2018.
Tottenham are also set to swoop in on the deal and facilitate a return of their former player to the Premier League. Mauricio Pochettino is currently struggling with the absence of Victor Wanyama in the midfield position. They dropped precious points in the last 3 matches with a loss to Leicester City and a draw at home to West Brom.
Having topped the group in the Champions League, they are yet to face stiff competition in the knockout stages and would benefit immensely with a 3-time European champion in their squad.
Pochettino is in dire need of a holding midfielder with experience to lead the squad back into the top 3 and compete for the tittle. Luka Modric will be a perfect fit for the Spurs and the fans will be exuberant over the return of their former wonderboy who has appeared in 127 matches for them.
