Real Madrid are keeping tabs on the developments of Manchester City’s Argentine striker Sergio Aguero. It is being reported that the South American forward is unhappy with Pep Guardiola’s rotational policy which has seen his time in the City first-team cut short this season. Guardiola has switched between Aguero and Gabriel Jesus during the course of the season to keep his squad fresh and avoid injuries. However, it has resulted in the striker feeling a bit unwanted at the club.
Various sources in the English press are now claiming that the Argentine has held meetings with Manchester City supremo Khaldoon Al Mubarak and he has been given assurances of a starting place in Guardiola’s squad. However, the striker still feels unhappy and is considering his options ahead of the January transfer window.
Pep Guardiola has recently labelled Aguero as a ‘legend’ after the striker scored a brace in the Premier League leaders’ 4-0 triumph over Bournemouth on Saturday. He also marked the occasion scoring his 100th goal at the Etihad Stadium in all competitions.
With his future uncertain, let’s take a look at three potential options for Pep Guardiola if the forward ends up leaving Manchester.
Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal):
The Arsenal contract label has caught Guardiola’s attention in the summer but a move failed to materialise. Now the Citizens’ boss can go in for him again and add another top goal-scorer to the club’s plethora of attacking options. The Chilean will definitely be a good fit at the Etihad Stadium and has a wealth of experience in the Premier League.
He has scored 78 goals in 162 appearances for the Gunners during his career in North London.
Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund):
The Borussia Dortmund striker might leave in January which can pave the way for a move to Manchester. The Gabonese forward has been prolific for Dortmund this season and has scored 21 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions. He can be the final piece of Pep Guardiola’s jigsaw at Manchester City and will be the perfect replacement for someone of the calibre of Sergio Aguero.
Timo Werner (RB Leipzig):
The German centre-forward has set the Bundesliga on fire with his goal scoring for RB Leipzig this season. Although, he is not as prolific as Aubameyang yet he works hard for his team up top which can be utilised in Pep Guardiola’s style of play at Manchester City. The Stuttgart born forward has scored 12 goals in 23 appearances for RB Leipzig in all competitions and will be a force to be reckoned with going into the future!
