Rangers have overtaken Aberdeen in Scottish Premiership table with back to back wins over the Dons and are currently placed second in the tally behind arch-rivals and the undisputed Scottish champions Celtic FC who were five points clear to the Gers with a game in hand ahead of the midweek clash. Rangers, under Graeme Murty, maintained their streak with a 2-1 win over Ross County on Saturday but had a tough task tonight when they travelled to Easter Road to encounter Neil Lennon’s Hibernian FC who have been in majestic form since earning a Premiership promotion and pulled off a sensational 2-2 draw against Celtic on Sunday afternoon by scoring two late goals in quick succession.
The game proved to be a highly-contested one and it were the visitors who scripted a comeback and registered a 2-1 win over the hosts.
Below are the Rangers FC players rated from their comeback win against the Hibs.
Wes Foderingham: 7.5
The custodian could have done little to stop Lewis Stevenson’s early opener but pulled off two great saves in quick succession to deny Martin Boyle and Paul Hanlon and kept his side in the contest. Made some decent stops in the second half too but was lucky as Brandon Baker hit the woodwork twice for the Hibs.
James Tavernier: 7
Kept on making forward runs and whipped in crosses for Morelos inside the box. Also pulled off a few crucial defensive blocks and clearances throughout the game.
Bruno Alves: 7.5
The veteran Portuguese international had a few nervy moments but settled in well and used his experience to keep hold of the lead despite the Hibs’ relentless pressure for an equalizer.
Danny Wilson: 7.5
Wilson too kept his defensive composure and managed to partner Alves well in the heart of Gers defence throughout the game.
Declan John: 6
Made some forward runs but also concentrated on his defensive responsibilities to deal with the Hibs attacking threats in search of an equalizer.
Ross McCrorie: 7.5
Once again impressed in his defensive midfield role. Was strong, steady, broke down numerous Hibs moves in the middle of the park and also helped his side to hold the lead by helping his defensive line.
Jason Holt: 8
Holt has been outstanding in recent weeks and made his presence known for his hard work throughout the game. He screened the backline and also helped his side to form counter-attacking movements from deep down the midfield.
James Barjonas: 7
The youngster orchestrated moves in an attacking midfield role and had an impressive first half. Looked little isolated after an hour mark and was replaced by David Bates to hold the lead.
Josh Windass: 8.5
Windass continues his scoring run as he scored the equalizer late in the first half. Troubled the Hibs defence with his tricky runs, pace and dribbling traits.
Kenny Miller: NA
The 37-year-old veteran was unlucky as he was forced to leave the pitch with an early injury. Was replaced by Daniel Candeias.
Alfredo Morelos: 8
Missed a golden opportunity in the first half but scored spectacularly to earn his side a lead late in the first half. Morelos was handed a start following his goal-scoring cameo from the bench against Ross County and the striker continued his scoring streak with another crucial goal. Was replaced by Eduardo Herrera in closing minutes.
Substitutes
Daniel Candeias: 6
Was as early replacement of Kenny Miller. Linked up well at times down the right-hand flank but mostly had to help his defence to protect the lead.
David Bates: 6
Was brought in to keep hold of the lead and clinch a win. The youngster did it effectively by helping his backline with his solid defensive display.
Eduardo Herrera: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
