BSC Young Boys will be the beneficiaries of FIFA’s new compensation rule for the transfer of any player under the age of 18. The Swiss club has introduced the football world to the 17 year old talent of Yannick Toure. The Senegal born forward has a Swiss passport that will allow him to represent Switzerland in the future should he live up to his talent.
He is off to a fine start for the season having played seven games for BSC Young Boys II and scoring six goals in his outings. His impressive performances has caught the attention of the national set up of Switzerland and he is close to a call up from the Swiss under 19 side for a national commitment.
With the youngster showing impressive development and having a good height of 1.86 meters and a good body strength, he is surely an attacker to watch out for. With the ability to play up front or in wide positions, a young player of his versatility can certainly add quality to any squad. He is now also being speculated as a transfer piece and is linked with a move to English side Newcastle United.
Toure has reportedly failed to finalise a contract with Young Boys as he is not eighteen yet and that means Newcastle United can snap him up for a FIFA-mandated compensation fee and not have to spend any transfer fee on the player.
Newcastle United did not have a good first few weeks in the season but then slowly came back to their grind. They were on the seventh spot after nine game weeks but three defeats in a row including yesterday’s drubbing at the hands of Manchester United have left them slipping down and they now stand eleventh on the table with fifteen points from fourteen games.
On the transfer front things have not been so smooth and Rafael Benitez has made no secret of the fact that Newcastle United need new players. After a very impressive season in the Championships that saw Newcastle return to the Premier League, Benitez demanded more signings of Premier League standard to establish the club in England’s premier competition.
However, with Newcastle unable to sell their existing crop of players, the purse stringent owner of the club refused to make funds available and Newcastle has had to deal with a stagnant squad frustrating Benitez. Come the January transfer window, Benitez has made it clear that he wants reinforcements to his squad.
Given the dire condition and the need for impact players, a move for Toure may not be the wisest thing as it would hardly have any significance on the improvement of the first team.
