It appears that Henrikh Mkhitaryan no longer has a future at Manchester United. The player has been left out in the cold and will not want to stay at a club, where most of his time has been frustrating and unhappy. With the player not wanted at the club, here are the three options for him where he can get regular football.
Chelsea
Chelsea will want to correct their mistakes from the summer transfer window failures and would hope to appease Antonio Conte by bringing in Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Conte’s switch to a 3-5-2 formation this season has left Chelsea short of players in their centre attacking midfield position with Cesc Fabregas the only recognized senior player in that position. This might prompt Mkhitaryan, who predominantly played as a central attacking midfielder before to move to the west London club where he is likely to get a lot more game time.
Mkhitaryan’s move to Chelsea will bring in some much-needed creativity to The Pensioners. The Blues midfield predominantly consists of powerhouses in the likes of Kante and Bakayoko and lacks the guile and finesse needed to break down certain defences or to hold on the ball to see through matches. Moreover, Mkhitaryan can also play as a winger and would be a great back up to Hazard with Pedro and Willian both failing to turn up this season.
Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino is a believer in high-tempo football with a team that has a great tenacity to attack in waves. He also loves to give chances to players with talent to thrive on the big stage. He helps prepare them for the grand occasions by managing them with great care so as to remove the fear of the occasion from them.
The development of the likes of Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Eric Dier and most recently Davinson Sanchez stands as a testimony to the work Pochettino has done and can do with players who have the potential.
Should such an opportunity arrive for Mkhitaryan; to work with a manager of Pochettino’s calibre and in a team of Tottenham’s quality, it is difficult to see him turning it down in favour of a stay at a club where he is no longer a first-team player. Moreover, a move to a different team might just be what Mkhitaryan needs to restart his stagnated career.
Arsenal
The Alexis Sanchez saga has another new story rumbles on as another possibility has spurned out long after the transfer window has closed. It is no secret that Arsenal have failed to tie down their prized asset to a new contract and Sanchez come the end of this 2017-18 season will come to the end of his contract and will be free to move on to any club of his choice as a free agent. In such a scenario Mkhitaryan will be more than happy to join Arsenal where if Sanchez leaves, the onus of attacking football from the wings is likely to fall on him. He will directly walk into the side that will need some desperate creativity from the wings.
