Gareth Bale has reportedly agreed to terms with Premier League giants, Manchester United. After spending continuous spells on the sidelines, it looks like Bale’s stint with Real Madrid might come to an end this January.
The 28-year-old had undergone surgery on his ankle last year in November. Ever since then, he has failed to feature in a continuous run of games. Club president, Florentino Perez kept his faith at first and expected the star winger to make a comeback for the Galacticos, but has changed his mind and is looking to cash in on him while he is still relatively young.
Bale had arrived at Madrid in September 2013 for a fee close to €100m, breaking the one set by his current teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Welshman so far has won 11 trophies with the La Liga side mostly featuring in the first couple of years at the club. He has recorded 71 goals in 161 appearances for Madrid. Ever since his injury woes started, the club has seen a number of players get shuffled around in his position but none an exact replacement.
A move back to the Premier League might not be the worst thing for his career right now, as Mourinho will be pleased to have the Tottenham star he missed out on working with when he left the managerial position of Real Madrid in 2013. With an exciting line-up already set in place, Bale can look to resurrect his career at Old Trafford. Although Mourinho has Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard at his disposal, none of them is regular in the right wing position.
Clearly, the Portuguese manager is looking for someone of Bale’s quality to take up the position and form a perfect attacking line-up with Lukaku up front and Pogba behind him.
Tottenham are also interested in retaining their former wonderboy and fitting him alongside Harry Kane in the strike force. Mauricio Pochettino fell into the clutches of league leaders Manchester City in the weekend fixture with a 1-4 loss at the Etihad. His lack of depth in the squad got highlighted after the Spurs started dropping crucial points in their Premier League fixtures during the group stages of Champions League. After their last season finish in the 2nd spot behind Chelsea, Tottenham are capable title contenders now. Bale would be a dream addition to the squad and the fans if he can mount a comeback and spearhead their European and domestic campaign towards a strong finish.
However, Pochettino might not agree to pay the hefty price set by the Madrid board, which leaves Manchester United with a better shot at acquiring him.
