Manchester United succumbed to their third defeat in the Premier League as they surrendered to Manchester City as the noisy neighbours got away with a 1-0 win.
Despite spending lavishly Jose Mourinho failed to turn the tide in their favour as City are leading way to the Premier League title. The Portuguese manager will have a last shot in the January transfer window as he would try to bring some of his preferred targets in a bid to snatch the title from City.
According to reports, Manchester United will revive their interest in Ivan Perisic. The Inter Milan winger had been dragged by United throughout the summer but remained with Inter as the Red Devils refused to budge into their demand.
Perisic ended up committing himself to a new five-year contract but that hasn’t ended United hopes. The new deal was believed to earn Inter a hefty price for the winger if he is to leave San Siro in future.
Wirth time running out Mourinho is ready to lodge another attempt for the player and is ready to splash £45m for him. Perisic started the season in a stunning fashion as he already racked up seven goals and six assists in the Serie-A.
United have some deft attackers with the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan but none of them is a natural winger. Martial and Rashford has played on the flanks but they love to cut back inside rather than crossing the ball.
With Romelu Lukaku upfront there should be enough balls floated up from the flanks but so far United have been pretty quiet in this aspect. Perisic can cross the ball with great precision and he can be very effective from either flank.
Lukaku hasn’t been fed with substantial crosses so far and Mourinho wants to give the attack a new dimension. The Portuguese gaffer previously worked with the winger when he was at Inter so he is quite well acquainted with his style of play.
Inter is currently topping the Serie-A so it remains a concern whether Luciano Spalletti would sanction his leave or not. Perisic has been one of the standout performers for the Italian side so his departure would take a toll on his side’s performance.
But if the offer is good enough from the 13 time Premier League champions, the Italian side might not be able to keep the prized player at their helm for long.
