Manchester City ended Manchester United’s unbeaten run at Old Trafford with a sumptuous win this weekend. Pep Guardiola’s side dealt a hammer blow to United’s title hopes with a 2-1 win over their neighbours.
The scoreboard might not speak all the truth and in all fairness, it could have been a pretty different result. City dominated the game right through the start as Pep Guardiola’s enjoyed the lion share of possession but United kept cool as their defensive shape remained rigid for the most of the time.
David Silva gave City the lead at the brink of the break but his celebration shortlived as Marcus Rashford latched on a Fabian Delph mistake to cut the deficit.
Nicolas Otamendi scored the second for the visitors which later proved to be the decider between the two teams in this much-anticipated derby.
Manchester United players Rated And Slated
David De Gea- 7
Was in his game-saving mode as usual. The Spanish custodian made a brilliant save from Leroy Sane which kept the Red Devils in the game. Also had to be on the action as he was on point again Kevin De Bruyne.
Antonio Valencia- 6
Defensively was badly exploited by City players.
Chris Smalling- 6.5
Played a really good game at the back and nullified the threat well.
Marcos Rojo- 6
His long balls kept the play out of bay a number of times.
Ashley Young- 6
Made a costly mistake as he allowed Leroy Sane to have a go at the goal.
Ander Herrera- 5.5
Failed to create that tenacity in the midfield as City players enjoyed a much better position in the midfield.
Nemanja Matic- 6
Was an uncharacteristic match from the Serbian enforcer. Allowed Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva and ended buckled between themselves.
Anthony Martial- 6
The French international made some positive runs forward but failed to grind out the neat result.
Jesse Lingard- 5
Struggled badly in the no. 10 position as he held back a number of times.
Marcus Rashford- 7
The English youngster looked threatening at times and the first goal was a result of that. He was there at the right spot and pushed it past Ederson to send the Old Trafford into joy.
Romelu Lukaku- 4
Awful performance from the Belgian international. Got isolated from the entire side and had to take the blame for City’s winning goal.
Substitutions:
Victor Lindelof- 6
A solid performance at the back.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic- 5
Too little time to make an impact
