Manchester United has reportedly offered an improved contract to Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini in an effort to retain his services. It is understood that this will be the Red Devils’ final attempt to convince the midfielder to stay at Old Trafford. The 30-year-old just has six months remaining on his current contract and will be open to schedule talks with foreign clubs in January.
The Belgian has already rejected United’s previous offer a few months ago but the Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is still adamant that a deal can be reached for the ex Everton midfielder and has stuck with him through his injury-ravaged season.
Fellaini is aware that this is going to be his last chance to sign a big contract in football and he wants United’s offer to reflect that and meet his expectations. Some sources in the English press are claiming that the Manchester outfit has upped their offer from £120,000-a-week to a whopping £150,000-a-week.
If the Belgian international still rejects this final offer from United, then they will be forced to decide on whether to sell him when the transfer window opens next month for a potential cut-price deal or stick with him and let him leave for free in the summer. It is being reported that Fellaini is keen to stay in Manchester but with other lucrative offers on the table from Turkey and China, it remains to be seen whether he commits his long-term future to the Red Devils.
Manchester United are currently struggling in the Premier League and has suffered two major blows in the title race after back to back draws against Leicester City and Burnley respectively. Their rivals and league leaders Manchester City, on the other hand, keep on winning and are yet to be beaten in domestic competitions.
The Red Devils need all the help they can get and has recently missed the services of Fellaini especially after the Belgian’s impressive form at the start of the season. The 30-year-old is currently out with a knee injury and that has hampered United’s chances of keeping pace with the Citizens.
Fellaini has featured in 12 matches for Manchester United this season and has scored 4 goals while making one assist from the midfield. He is definitely a handful for any defence and has incredible close control for a big man. His headed goals have been a big miss for the Red Devils of late but they are in a powerless position with regards to his contract situation at Old Trafford. The proverbial ball is in Fellaini’s court now and only time will tell what the future holds for the big Belgian international.
