Luke Shaw’s 3 year period at Manchester United might come to an end this January, as the club looks to get rid of his services for a price of over 20 million pounds. He has fallen way below the pecking order in the left back position at the club after Ashley Young and Daley Blind. Jose Mourinho has been openly vocal about his lack of quality options at fullback.
However, Mourinho did praise Shaw’s work ethic and his determination to get back to the first-team action. He also added that the left-back still has a steep learning curve like all young players and needs to prove himself.
After breaking his leg into two pieces back in September 2015 Shaw’s career has taken a significant dip. His continuous struggle to get back to match fitness and to find his feet on the pitch after the injury has not helped either. He has conjured less than 50 minutes of game time this season and is unlikely to get much anytime soon.
Manchester United are ready to sell him at a reduced value from the 27 million pounds they paid for him back in 2014. Newcastle United were heavy at the heels of this transfer possibility but could not meet the asking price of 20 Million. Rafael Benitez will look to influence a possible loan move, however, he might have to work fast as Turkish side Fenerbahçe S.K. are also interested in the 22-year-old.
Luke Shaw came to Manchester United as one of the hottest English talents with his shiftiness and sublime touch on the ball. His rise in Southampton was nothing short of meteoric making his debut at only 16 years of age. He was even called up for international duty in 2014, against Denmark before it all came crumbling down.
But the left-back is adamant to make his comeback, as he was reported to be one of the fittest players in the Manchester United squad. Even though his body has faced heavy challenges in the past, he is ready to make all the necessary changes to regain his glorious form.
His primary goal would be to get more game time, which is the biggest challenge in the current Manchester United team. A transfer move might be a short-term gain for the club, but a loan move to another English side can be profitable for both the player and the club. Luke Shaw will definitely receive more game time, while Manchester United can distantly assess his conditions for one more year before selling him.
