Manchester United are keeping tabs on Argentine full-back Enzo Diaz. Recent reports in the English press have suggested that the Red Devils are ready to fulfil his ‘dream’ and consider making a move for him in the near future. The 22-year-old is currently plying his trade at Argentina for second division leaders Agropecuario and has impressed United with his performances this season. Jose Mourinho is still looking to find a long-term solution at left-back and has handed the role to the likes of Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw in recent seasons.
The 22-year-old has just made 11 appearances for the Argentine outfit and has already started to attract interest from some top clubs. It is being reported that the left-back, who can also play in the centre, has disclosed about the interest from the Red Devils. In an interview with Ataque Futbolero, Diaz said:
‘My agent told me that they were delighted and they were going to see me a couple more games.
‘It is the dream of any footballer [to play for Manchester United].
‘However, I need to remain focused on what we are doing and enjoying this moment.’
It is no secret that Manchester United are looking for a long-term solution at left-back. Ashley Young is currently occupying the position in the first-team and has impressed with his performances this season. However, he is naturally a winger and not a long-term solution in that position. With the futures of Luke Shaw and Daley Blind uncertain, they need a player who can grow into that role at United and breakthrough into the starting eleven in the coming years. Jose Mourinho’s side are currently in second place in the Premier League standings and find themselves eleven points behind leaders, Manchester City who are unbeaten in domestic competitions this season. The Red Devils are in dire need of reinforcements as Mourinho tries to challenge Manchester City’s dominance in the second half of the season.
Enzo Diaz might be an unknown Argentine full-back but Mourinho has proven in the past that he has the eye to spot top talent and United fans will be hoping that is the case once again if they are successful in their attempts to secure his services. It’s high time they fixed their issues at left-back and find someone who can command that position for years to come.
It remains to be seen whether they can fulfil Diaz’s dream and put pen to paper on a deal with the South American fullback.
