Andreas Pereira is planning to extend his stay in Valencia following his loan spell in La Liga this season. According to recent reports, the 21-year-old wants to stay in Spanish football for the remainder of the season even though he could be recalled once the transfer window opens next month. The 21-year-old stated his desire to stay at the Mestalla Stadium last month as he feels that a return to Old Trafford might hamper his chances to develop as a footballer. He has made 17 appearances for the La Liga club in all competitions this season and has bagged one goal while providing 4 assists so far.
The Belgian-born Brazilian has caught the eye in the last few years for Manchester United’s youth and reserve teams, which ultimately earned him a first-team call-up under Louis Van Gaal, the then Manchester United manager in the 2014/15 season. Since the arrival of Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, his first-team chances have been limited at United which has led to his departure on loan to Granada last year.
The 21-year-old played a full season in La Liga and returned this summer in the hope of breaking into Jose Mourinho’s first-team. However, the Portuguese manager asked him to be patient for his chances but he decided to be loaned out to Valencia which has seen him help his current side climb up to third in the La Liga standings.
Manchester United has struggled to keep their midfielders fit this season with frequent injuries to Michael Carrick, Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini. So if Perreira stayed put at Old Trafford last summer, there is every chance that he would have been a key part of Jose Mourinho’s plans for this season. However, while United has frequently looked slow and out of pace in the midfield, Perreira has aided Valencia’s quest of securing a top 4 finish in the La Liga.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils currently sit second in the Premier League standings, a massive 15 points behind leaders and rivals, Manchester City. Jose Mourinho is desperate to address some of the issues in midfield when the transfer window commences next month but a recall for Pereira doesn’t seem to on the cards with the player preferring to stay in Spain. It looks like his days could be numbered at Old Trafford even though he has taken great strides to continue with his development.
Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Andreas Pereira as he continues to showcase his talents for Valencia this season.
