If media reports are to be believed, Sean Dyche is set to lose his defensive rock James Tarkowski to Chelsea or Arsenal very soon. However, the competition could be set to be taken to higher standards with Manchester United now set to join the race. The three-diamond clubs of England are chasing the English player and at the age of 25, he could prove to be a vital asset for both clubs.
Burnley has produced a mean defence this time which has seen the club soar as high as the sixth place in the league table and much of the credit must go to Tarkowski.
The Red Devils of Manchester got off to the best possible start this season. After a busy summer that saw the club spend in excess of £150m, Manchester United currently are sitting pretty in the second position in the league.
They have played some entertaining, attacking football this season, something the Old Trafford faithful have been craving for since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.
It is now being reported that Mourinho is looking to add further depth and strength to his squad and English central defender James Tarkowski has become a target for Manchester United.
However, Mourinho was desperate for a centre-back signing in the summer and the arrival of Victor Lindelof from Benfica has calmed down the Portuguese tactician and the English player may not be a priority signing.
Currently, the Red Devils have Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo who can play in the centre back position. It will be difficult for Mourinho to adjust another centre back into the side. United also have makeshift cover at the middle of the park in the form of Daley Blind and Nemanja Matic as well.
Although they are suffering from a few injury problems at the moment, Mourinho’s expected to have his men back by the time January comes and it may no longer be necessary to add a new signing.
Moreover, how easily will Burnley let go of their star defender remains to be seen? Burnley who are enjoying a good season is unlikely to let go of Tarkowski as he would want to see how far can Burnley take their good form into the season. Losing Tarkowski might cause the team to destabilize, something Dyche would be unlikely to comply with.
In such a situation, a move next summer instead of a January scoop seems more likely for all concerned parties.
