Paulo Dybala has thrown his future into the pit of uncertainty by refusing to commit his long-term stay at Juventus. The left-footed Argentine has been compared to Messi on several occasions for their similar stature and nature of football. Dybala has been in imperious form for Juventus this season and is finally living up to his potential of becoming a world-class player.
The news breaking out about Dybala’s future will certainly alert the top clubs across Europe. However, given the inflated state of the current market, not many of them will be able to afford the Argentine. Neymar recently broke the 200 million mark for a footballer’s transfer price and Dybala would be expected to go somewhere near about that region at least if he chooses to leave Juventus.
Not to belittle the financial or the global power of any club, but even amongst the top dogs of European football, only a handful will be able to pull off such a high-profile transfer. One such club would have to be Manchester United.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure at the end of 2013 season brought an overwhelming end to a love story so romantic that left football in tears. While the romantics of the game were left to delve into the fond memories of the Scottish maestro, the pragmatics calculated the impending doom that was to befall the club. In his 27 year reign at the club, the hard-hitting Scot moulded the club in his image and he had become an embodiment of the club itself.
It was never going to be easy for his immediate successor to find his footing at Old Trafford. Moyes came and went without so much so as scratching the surface and while Van Gaal’s’ appointment was greeted with more pomp and cheer, the experienced Dutchman did not fare any better than his predecessor. However, the arrival of the special one seems to have rejuvenated the club to an extent of some sorts and big profile signings is a regular occurrence at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils were in the market for a winger and having Dybala in the league, which Mourinho knows inside out, as a part of Jose’s United will propose a daunting prospect for the opposition.
Dybala will complete the team consisting the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba and it would be dream come true for United fans to see a team of such raw pace and power, rain in goals at Old Trafford. All this, of course, will only happen given a move is made and Dybala chooses Manchester United over the other suitors.
