According to reports, Jason Denayer’s second stint with Galatasaray might come to an end this January as the Turkish giants are looking to cut his loan spell short. The 22-year old has found life hard in Istanbul with a string of inconsistent performances and is currently facing the possibility of returning to the benches of Manchester City.
However, R.S.C. Anderlecht have been keeping tabs on Denayer and might look to swoop in and offer him a deal for the remainder of the season. This might be the perfect setup for the Belgian centre-back with a very low probability of breaking into the first team under Pep Guardiola. With John Stones set to return soon, Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi are first-team regulars under the Spaniard in their impressive campaign so far.
Denayer arrived at the Manchester City academy in 2013 and even after signing a 5-year deal with the club, he has not yet played in a single game for the senior team. He spent the last 3 seasons on loan winning the Scottish League title with Celtic in 2014-15.
The centre-back was developing remarkably displaying immense composure and an ability to read the game for the back. He took his talents to Galatasaray after his spell with Celtic and featured in 28 matches. He was greatly admired by City’s development coach, Patrick Viera who held high praise for the youngster.
After last season’s loan spell with Sunderland, Denayer was approached by Celtic again but chose to play for Galatasaray with the promise of more Champions League football. His dip in form might be attributed to a lack of stability in his career so far, shifting from one team to other. But if he wants to find a place in the City squad next season he needs to start putting up better performances than he has for Igor Tudor’s side.
Anderlecht are currently in the 3rd place of the Belgian First Division A and has fallen 10 points behind league leaders, Club Brugge. Their weekend loss to Royal Charleroi SC severely affected their title contention and are looking for a boost in talent from the winter transfer window. Already tied to Newcastle United striker, Aleksander Mitrovic the Belgian side might require the talents of Denayer for the second half of their season.
Come January we will get to see whether Galatasaray does break the loan spell of the 22-year-old and relieve themselves from paying his wages. But ever since reports have emerged over the possibility of him leaving, a lot of clubs in Europe will be eager to sign him to their side next month.
