The Report
It is now being reported that Real Madrid who are in the market for a new striker are now looking at Sergio Aguero. The report turns bizarre after this with claims being made that Pep Guardiola’s team is ready to accept the deal on the condition that Keylor Navas move the other way.
The Players Involved
Sergio Aguero
The prolific Argentine forward has always been a lethal player. Ever since his Atletico Madrid days, he has been tipped to become one of the best strikers in world football. Short in stature but immensely daft on the ball, Aguero is immensely hard to tie down when running towards goal. He also has enough strength and pace to not only survive but also thrive in the tackle-loving English league. Add to this his habit of scoring almost every time he turns up on the pitch, Aguero is a daunting prospect to deal with. However, the one snag that never let Aguero achieve his true potential is the player’s injury problems. He is injured far too frequently for a top striker and has never been able to play a full season for Manchester City.
Keylor Navas
The Costa Rican custodian has been an integral part of Zinedine Zidane’s two-time Champions League winning team. However, as is always the case with Real there is something more needed than just good performances to become a hero at Santiago Bernabeu.
The first and foremost problem Real have with Navas is the fact that he is turning 31 this year and does not have a long career ahead of him. This has prompted the Spanish capital outfit to look for other options despite Navas being in terrific form in goal. Moreover, with Real actively chasing Manchester United’s David De Gea and been linked with Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois as well, things don’t look bright for Navas. The reason for this is because the two keepers are young and have time on their side on top of the fact that they are the best in the world in what they do.
The Costa Rican also lacks the superstar factor needed to thrive in Real Madrid. The players in Real are not just professionals but celebrities followed by the world. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Marcelo, Toni Kroos, Isco and company have set a certain “Galactico” standard in terms of their celebrity like lifestyle, something Navas has been unable to do.
The Opinion
With Ederson performing extremely well and Bravo as a back-up, City are now well set in goal. Hence it makes absolutely no sense for the English team to lose an integral member of their side to sign a player in a position they already have covered.
