The arch-rivals of Manchester have gotten off to the best possible start this season. After a busy summer that saw both the clubs spend in excess of £150m, Manchester City and Manchester United currently are sitting pretty in the top two positions in the league table. They have already put daylight difference at the top, after just 15 game weeks, between them and the rest of the league.
The case gets even better for Manchester City, who have raced ahead of Manchester United and are increasingly looking like the team to beat, come May 2018. Having spent a huge amount in the transfer market over the last two seasons, Pep finally has a squad of players he likes and is delivering on his promise of providing relentless, attacking football at the Etihad this season. With a manager like Guardiola at the helm of such a talented side, it is not surprising to see City playing the way they are.
They have been in flawless form this season, dispatching opponents with absurd ease and with their confidence and team chemistry getting stronger and stronger after each game, the future proposition for City’s opponents look scary.
Over 60 goals already scored and still unbeaten in all competitions, City are currently the best team in Europe. It seems Guardiola is not ready to rest on his laurels and wants more signings in his already loaded up team. He is now reportedly eyeing a move for Argentine talent Cristian Pavon.
Pavon is one of the hottest properties in Argentina right now. He plies his trade for Boca Juniors, a team with a history of producing great players. A supremely confident player on the ball, he dominantly plays on the left wing but can also play on the right wing and as a second striker as per the team’s needs. He has been linked with a move to many major clubs in Europe. However, it might be a jet from the Etihad that can do the trick for Pavon to head to England.
Although Boca Juniors are not very happy about the idea of selling the talented youngster, the decision will be out of their hands, should any club come up with a bid to trigger his £32.5 million release clause.
There will be a slight sense of scepticism around the move, however. There have been many a talented South American who has sailed across the Atlantic only to find that the European style of football is not for them. Let’s hope Pavon can overcome that barrier, should he make the move. But do you think he is the right man for Guardiola?
