Daniel Sturridge might be on his way out of Liverpool in January after failing to put in regular appearances under manager, Jurgen Klopp. According to Dailymail, La Liga sides Real Betis and Valencia are interested in the England international and are remotely monitoring his status at Anfield.
He has so far registered only 5 starts in the Premier League mostly coming off the bench in the dying minutes of the game. After his long stint at the sidelines on repetitive injury concerns, he finally returned to the line-up this season but failed to produce on the pitch.
Klopp could not rely on the striker’s fitness battle to contend for the league title and has found his replacements in Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Dominic Solanke. Falling behind the pecking order was imminent as Sturridge failed to replicate his old run of form for the Anfield side. Frustrated to be dropped from the England squad too, the 28-year-old is desperate to find some valuable game time and find a way to resurrect his career.
Valencia are currently contending for the League title sitting in the 2nd spot, 5 points behind leaders – Barcelona. With just Simone Zaza and Rodrigo Moreno as their striker options, Valencia are eager to obtain the technical ability and finishing skills of Sturridge towards the final push for the league title in the 2nd half of the season.
After earning themselves a promotion to top flight Spanish football, Real Betis have been keen on earning themselves a European qualifications spot by the end of the season. However, their ambitions might not come to life if they continue to suffer in the goal-scoring department. Their last win came on 21 October against Alaves and have since scored only 4 goals in their last 6 games. In serious need of proven talent, Sturridge might be the perfect fit for the side.
Jurgen Klopp has expressed sympathy towards Sturridge’s current state of affairs. He greatly admires the former Chelsea player and is reluctant to let him go.
Scoring 64 goals in 133 appearances for the Reds, Sturridge was also linked to Serie A side, AC Milan. It is not unusual for so many clubs to be interested in the striker. His combination with Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling back in the day almost saw Liverpool to a league title in the 2013-14 season, before they dropped precious points on a 3-3 draw to Crystal Palace. Sturridge’s electric footwork combined with a keen eye for goal, will not allow him to continue warming the Liverpool bench. He should consider his options intently and aim for a national team return before the 2018 World Cup.
