Liverpool’s first ever trip to the Amex Stadium in the domestic league ended in a 5-1 victory for the visitors as a brace from Roberto Firmino after Emre Can’s opener saw the Reds go 3-0 up before the hour mark. Philippe Coutinho added a couple, the second of which came via a deflection after Jordan Henderson gave away a penalty to give Murray a chance to get on to the score sheet.
The Reds have now won three back to back away games and move into the top-4 temporarily yet and given the number of chances Jurgen Klopp made to his side, he will be ecstatic with the result. Here are the player ratings for Liverpool in this tie:
Simon Mignolet (7):
Made one huge save 1-0 down to keep his side in the lead and dealt with everything thrown at him on a comfortable outing for the Belgian.
Emre Can (6):
Opened the scoring for his side from a free-kick, starting as a part of the backline, and stuck to his test well to see out an easy victory.
Dejan Lovren (6):
Was hardly tested and got the better of Murray all night as he never allowed the Seagulls any space or time on the ball in dangerous areas.
Georginio Wijnaldum (5):
Nervous on the ball almost every time it was passed to him but to be fair, he is far from a CB and will be happy to come out with all three points.
Trent Alexandre-Arnold (7):
The youngster hardly put a foot wrong as he got the better of the opposition wingers and was a constant presence at both ends of the field.
Jordan Henderson (6):
Stuck to his task well in the midfield but needs to be more creative for Liverpool to have a better chance of beating sides like Brighton.
James Milner (6):
Lethargic in midfield and too scared to try anything as he kept the ball rolling and did the dirty work required to win the ball back quickly.
Mohamed Salah (7):
Failed to score in his 5th consecutive league game but Salah was instrumental in a couple of the goals, setting up Firmino for his second, in yet another impressive performances by the Egyptian.
Philippe Coutinho (9):
Ran the show in the midfield even as he was slow to settle into the game but was a nightmare for the hosts in the second half, where he was involved in almost every attack. Sumptuous ball for Firmino’s first, innovative free-kick for his first and will claim the second goal, late in the game.
Roberto Firmino (9):
Probably his best performance this season in the league, Firmino scored twice in the space of 15 minutes at either side of half-time and could have had his hat-trick when he unselfishly tried to square Salah for a tap-in. A real team man.
Substitutes:
Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain (6):
Came on to add fresh legs to the side and see off the lead.
