Liverpool’s attacking arsenal this season boasts of having four sensational attackers in the shapes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino and all of them have been ruthless up front this term. Jurgen Klopp’s tactical nous with these players has been yielding a substantial amount of dividends offensively but with their availability, Klopp has been forced to overlook a quality youngster with a lot of potential in Harry Wilson, who has hardly been given the pedestal to thrive.
Wilson emerged through the youth ranks of Liverpool and has been with the club for over a decade now. But sadly, he hasn’t been unable to cement a place for himself in their senior side. He has made only one senior appearance for the Reds, which came in an FA Cup clash against Plymouth Argyle last season. However, he has been in a dazzling form in Premier League 2, having smashed 9 goals and registering 3 assist in 10 appearances so far.
Reports had emerged, linking him to a loan move to Preston North End for the second half of the season so that he tastes the experience of Championship football and brush his calibre further. Liverpool believe that Wilson’s future is bright and thus, they don’t want to lose him from their books. In pursuance of keeping him confined to themselves, the Merseyside club handed him a contract extension so that he has the chance to make a strong statement to get into the senior side.
However, of late, The Sun reported that the Welsh international has turned down the offer and is keen on a permanent switch to Preston North End. It is perceived that Wilson doesn’t see his immediate future with Liverpool and in order to accumulate regular game time under his belt, which he has hardly received under Klopp, he is desirous of the aforesaid move. Under Alex Niel’s tutelage, his chances of starting the game will certainly multiply and frankly speaking, his view does make a lot of sense.
The Lilywhites have been decent in the English second division for far, having collected 35 points from 22 games and are placed at the 9th spot in the league table. They are one of the sides who are looking to mount a challenge for promotion to the Promised Land of Premier League and in their pursuits, someone like Wilson, who possesses versatility, pace, power and fluidity, could come of substantial aid to them.
