Since Steven Gerrard took up the responsibility at Liverpool academy, things have started to shape out pretty nicely. The former Liverpool midfielder was offered the job to mentor the future Liverpool stars and he embraced the opportunity with both hands which could bear fruit in near future.
Gerrard has long been associated with the Reds as he has never played anywhere than Anfield barring a stint in the Major League Soccer. His loyalty to the club has made him a fan favourite and still, he has the same reputation among the Liverpool fan base.
Gerrard himself is a Liverpool academy graduate who later went on to claim several accolades for his stupendous performance on the pitch. He probably won everything but one thing that kept eluded him is the Premier League.
Nevertheless, the midfielder is enjoying his job pretty fluently and he has been tasked with the job to unearth another or Gerrads from the Liverpool youth setup. With several years passed Liverpool have failed to produce sublime talents as they had to borrow players from other clubs.
While Manchester United have come up with Marcus Rashford who has made a quite quick step up to the senior setup Liverpool didn’t have an answer to that. But the scene is changing drastically and Liverpool could soon well have their own Robbie Fowler.
Gerrard has completed his UEFA ‘A’ license and this coaching role might help in landing the more lucrative Liverpool managerial job. Jurgen Klopp is doing a fantastic job at the moment and under his tutelage, Liverpool have emerged as a power hungry side.
But despite his efforts, the German manager is not going to stay here forever and a change is inevitable. Liverpool fans would love the fact the team would be managed by one of their own which could be an icing on the cake.
No one could understand the club philosophy better than the 37-year-old and if an offer comes he can’t just let it go. Coaching is a very sensitive and intelligent job which cannot be done hurriedly. Gerrard could have the chance to fulfil his wish which he couldn’t fulfil as a player, winning the Premier League for Liverpool.
It might be too soon to predict but if and managerial position is up for grabs Gerrard would love to have a shot and who knows, he might come up with a better result than expected.
