Liverpool are plotting a move for West Ham United midfielder Manuel Lanzini. Some sources in the English press are claiming that Jurgen Klopp is lining up a move for the midfielder and reckons that the Argentinian international can be an ideal replacement for Phillipe Coutinho who has been touted for a move to Barcelona. The Reds hope to land the Hammers playmaker if they decide to sell Coutinho in the near future. According to recent reports, the Catalans are set to launch a £130m for the Brazilian this week and remain confident about their chances to persuade Liverpool to part ways with their prized asset.
It is believed that Lanzini could cost Liverpool up to £40m which would represent a £30m for David Moyes’ West Ham who bought the playmaker from Al-Jazira in the summer of 2016. The 24-year-old has gone on to make 88 appearances for the East London club and has scored 16 goals and make 14 assists during his time with the Hammers. The Argentine has turned out to be a key figure under David Moyes as they look to avoid relegation this season.
Liverpool sees Lanzini as a player with immense potential at an age where he can still develop and be a regular Champions League performer for the Reds for years to come.
Liverpool are currently in fourth place in the Premier League and it is partly down to the incredible attacking talents who are available at Klopp’s disposal. Phillipe Coutinho took his time to return to action for Liverpool but has once again justified why Barca remain interested in him with some match-winning displays for his team so far. He has scored some belters this season and is expected to stay in Merseyside until the end of the current campaign. Jurgen Klopp’s men have the third-best attacking record in Europe with only Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain scoring more goals than the Reds of Merseyside.
The addition of Manuel Lanzini will definitely add to Liverpool’s potency going forward but whether he can fill the void left by Coutinho remains to be seen. The Argentine has the potential to light up Anfield for years to come as evidenced by his impressive record for relegation strugglers West Ham this season. The 24-year-old has scored one goal and bagged 7 assists in 15 matches for the Hammers in this campaign. Klopp likes his players to be unselfish and work towards the benefit of the team, and Lanzini is definitely a player that fits that mould.
It remains to be seen whether the Reds let Phillipe Coutinho leave in the near future and if Lanzini can be their answer to fill the void left by the Brazilian.
