Leeds United took on Norwich City at home looking to bag three crucial points to help them in their quest to finish in the playoff positions. Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen lined his team up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and it paid off as the West Yorkshire club started the match on the strong foot. United defender Pontus Jannson scored the only goal of the game with a header in the 41st minute which saw the club climb up to seventh place in the Championship league standings.
Let’s take a look at how each player fared during the night:
GK: Felix Wiedwald – 5/10
He showed his troubles with his feet when he sliced a goal-kick which led to a Norwich City chance. However, he made for his earlier troubles by pulling off a remarkable save to deny Alex Pritchard after the break.
RB: Luke Ayling – 5/10
He wasted a wonderful opportunity with his head during the game. The right-back was reckless at times but did enough to keep a clean-sheet.
CB: Liam Cooper – 6/10
The defender did his duties at the heart of the Leeds defence and got his reward with a clean-sheet to show for his efforts.
CB: Pontus Jansson – 9/10
He scored the opener with a terrific header and lead the team from the backline. Jannson was one of the main reasons why Leeds won on the day.
LB: Gaetano Berardi – 6/10
He had little to do in the game but performed his duties when called upon.
CM: Ronaldo Vieira – 5/10
He had a game to forget against the Canaries after his brilliant performance in the last gameweek against Queens Park Rangers.
CM: Kalvin Phillips – 5/10
He got a great chance to score but failed with his effort which brushed wide off the post. The midfielder was mediocre overall in the match.
LM: Ezgjan Alioski – 5/10
He tried to have an effect on the game trying to use his pace in the flanks but couldn’t manage to trouble the Canaries’ defenders.
RM: Pawel Cibicki – 7/10
He had a brilliant first half and his deliveries into the box were spot-on. The right winger was unlucky that his team-mates couldn’t finish some of his chances.
ST: Samu Saiz – 5/10
He really struggled during the game. Other than a few bright moments of spark, his performance was lack-lustre. The striker missed a one-on-one chance and could only manage to hit the post.
ST: Kemar Roofe – 5/10
He was selfish with his chances and didn’t manage to get on the score-sheet.
Substitutes:
ST: Pablo Hernandez – 7/10
The attacker showed glimpses of his brilliance after coming on in the final quarter of the game.
ST: Jay Roy Grot – 5/10
He nearly handed the Canaries an equaliser after coming on when he was not strong enough while in possession.
CB: Matthew Pennington – N/A
He didn’t have enough time to make a difference in the game.
