Huddersfield Town have been linked with AS Monaco defender, Almamy Toure for a possible transfer in January. According to some sources, a bid of £12.4m has already been sent over to the French outfit.
Tommy Smith has been the primary choice with Florent Hadergjonaj as a backup for David Wagner to be fielded in the right back position. But the Swiss is due for a recall to the Bundesliga after this season.
Huddersfield have been one of the surprise stories in the Premier League this season along with promoted side Burnley. Even with the 4th worst defensive record in the league, Wagner’s men are sitting pretty in the 11th spot, far away of the relegation zone.
However, they are not out of the woods just yet with the second half of the season still left. Wagner knows quality additions are necessary to sustain their future in top-flight English football especially on the defensive end.
Toure is a product of the AS Monaco academy and has been quietly making himself known in the French League. With 9 Ligue 1 and 3 Champions League appearances, Toure has managed to get 4 assists to his name. Decent numbers for a player receiving very limited minutes on the pitch behind first choice right back, Djibril Sidibe.
His 5 feet 11 inches structure is athletically blessed to burst forward and drill in appetizing crosses into the box while at the same time maintain the defensive backline. The 21-year-old possesses all the key qualities of a top fullback and has the potential to be one of the leading defensive figures for Monaco.
However, Monaco’s European campaign has been shambolic with the side just registering just 2 points in the group stages and way below rivals Paris Saint- Germain in the points table. With Toure hungry and eager to climb the career ladder a transfer might be imminent if he can fetch a decent amount of money.
The Kirklees Stadium can be the perfect destination for the Malinese defender with an invaluable opportunity to develop himself within the fast-paced football of the English league. The promotion to top-flight football brings with a lot of challenges, one of which is squad depth.
The presence of young talents within the club ranks does the side a world of good to secure themselves even after facing elite competition regularly.
Olympique de Marseille are also reportedly interested in the youngster and will look to rival the Terriers in obtaining his services.
