With 7 wins and 4 draws in 20 games, Marco Silva’s Watford are currently in the 10th place in the points table and have a decent chances of fighting for a place in Europe, if they are able to find some consistency for the rest of the season. The manager will be relatively happy with the way his side have performed this season and will hope to keep the core of the squad intact, for years to come.
The likes of Richarlison are already attracting interests from a number of clubs in England and one player who will surely be wanted by bigger clubs in the country, pretty soon is midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.
A product of the Rennes academy, Doucoure joined the Hornets back in 2016 but has only managed to break into the first team and play regularly, from the start of the current season. He has six goals in 19 starts this league campaign and is one of the first names on the team sheet for Silva at the moment.
He is reportedly wanted by London club Arsenal but Silva is adamant that Doucoure will not be sold any time soon. The manager described the box-to-box midfielder as the ‘heartbeat’ of his side and is ready to offer him a bumper deal, to keep him at the club for years to come.
Currently the top scorer at the club, Doucoure is easily one of the best players for the Hornets at the moment and reports today claim that Watford are ready to offer him a new bumper deal. According to The Mirror, the English club have opened talks with Doucoure over a new five year deal, that could see him earn around £70,000-a-week after the turn of the year.
The French U21 international may not be making the headlines in England but he has certainly been one of the best players in his position this season in the domestic league. He has goals against the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool and is a big game player, that can help Watford to a place in the top half of the table consistently.
He averages 1.2 dribbles and 1.1 key passes per game to go with 1.9 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per game, showing his quality at both ends of the field. He is adept at sitting back and breaking play quickly while his technical ability allows him to turn defense into attack quickly, a ploy that is working wonders for his side this season.
He is only getting better by the game and will keep attracting interests from top clubs in England. But at Watford, he will remain one of the most important players at the club and is better off signing the deal and building on his reputation at the Vicarage Road.
