Reports rotating in the rumour mill have claimed that Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi is angling for a move back to the Premier League. His recent claim that he “loves” the English league put everyone on red alert including Arsenal and the red half of Manchester.
N’Zonzi has previously played for Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City in the Premier League. His English league career was not the biggest hit and the dynamic midfielder ended up moving to Spain by joining Sevilla on a four-year contract.
His move to Spain bore him good fruit as the midfielder has become a crucial cog in the Sevilla midfield. His impressive outings for the Spanish outfit has seen him get the first call-up to the French National set up, a feat quite impressive, given that France currently boasts of midfielders like Kante, Rabiot, Matuidi and more.
It is now being reported that Everton are the latest suitors to join the chase for Steven N’Zonzi.
As for Everton, what a difference a week can make.
A week back, the Toffees were the bogey side teams were craving to face. In the space of a few days, the scenario at Goodison Park looks different.
After an active summer where the club spent a fortune to bring in world famous talents, the club was expected to have a crack at the top six. Things turned horrific as Everton were beaten by sides both above and below their quality.
As their form slumped down through a never ending spiral, it saw the hammer fall on their ex-boss Ronald Koeman. Koeman’s sacking did little to change the club’s fortunes as they became the league’s bashing boys.
Even in the Europa League, five straight defeats in the group stage condemned the side to a rock bottom finish and European humiliation coupled with domestic crisis meant that the summer that promised so much had faded away into a relegation spot.
However, a Wayne Rooney show was put on display as the Englishman turned back the clock to his former days of glory. A stunning hattrick including a goal from his own half was enough to see Everton demolish the Hammers 4-0 on the night. They followed it up with another 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town.
With Toffess having secured the signing of Sam Allardyce as their manager and buoyed by their recent success, Everton are now looking to bolster their ranks and adding N’Zonzi to an already talented midfield will give the Merseyside club plenty of depth to use towards the second half of the season.
However, young Tom Davies, who has been in glowing form this season, might lose his first team opportunities should N’Zonzi come to Everton. Something for Allardyce to think about.
