As per one of the latest reports by the Derby Telegraph, Derby County are keen to sign Manchester City’s promising starlet, Lukas Nmecha. The youngster has shown his credentials in the youth levels of the Citizens, having scored 39 goals in 57 appearances and has emerged as one of the highly rated lads at the disposal of the blue half of Manchester and thus, the apparent interest from the Rams makes complete sense.
Nmecha was scouted by City when he was a nine-year-old while playing for his primary school, Wythenshawe, and has been with them ever since. He initially started his career as a winger but as time progressed, he was given the license to operate as a no. 9 and he has adapted to the ramification in a prolific manner.
The English starlet grew up as a Manchester City supporter and has been in a notable form for the youth sides of City and England.
The 18-year-old hasn’t made any appearances for his club, although he was an unused substitute in the Carabao Cup fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers back in October. The football fraternity isn’t unaware of the plethora of stars which Pep Guardiola has at his disposal at the Etihad Stadium and frankly speaking, Nmecha is still some distance away from being a contender to challenge for a place in the line-up of Guardiola. To brush himself further, he would certainly need to have the taste of competitiveness of competitive football.
The Rams are doing well in the Championship, having secured 35 points from 20 games so far and are placed at the 6th spot in the league table. They have seemingly appeared to be a side capable of earning a promotion to the Premier League and in order to bolster their credentials further, they would certainly need to make additions in January. Nmecha could be a decent option for them to beef up their attacking arsenal and add some depth to their striking options.
He is comfortable in holding the ball well up front and as the statistics suggest, he is clinical enough as well. He is well built, is generally found to be very mobile and has noteworthy predatory instincts on offer. Besides, he passes the ball well and to take his development into its next phase, a loan deal would be needed. Although he is inexperienced, it would not be unwise on the part of Derby County to attempt to sign him, for he has showcased his talents in the youth levels.
