Crystal Palace are reportedly keeping tabs on Shrewsbury Town midfielder Ben Godfrey. Some sources claim that the Eagles are eyeing up a move for the League One midfielder who is currently on loan from Norwich City. The 19-year-old has caught the eye with his impressive performances this season and it is believed that the Premier League duo of West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace are both monitoring his development at Shrewsbury Town. It is also being reported that Paul Simpson, the England Under-20 manager is thinking about handing the teenage midfielder his first international call-up.
Roy Hodgson has already tracked Godfrey in action extensively this season and is now being touted to make a move for him when the transfer window opens in January. Apparently, Swansea City has also entered the race for his signature after sending scouts to watch him in action earlier on in this campaign.
The 19-year-old has featured regularly for the Shrews so far and has helped his side climb up to second place in the League One standings. He has played a key role in Paul Hurst’s side which might propel Norwich City to keep hold of his services after the midfielder returns back from his loan move.
Crystal Palace are currently struggling in the Premier League but has recently turned their fortunes for the better, following the arrival of new manager Roy Hodgson. The Eagles finally managed to get themselves out of the relegation zone and sit in 14th place in the Premier League standings after an emphatic win at Leicester City on Saturday.
Roy Hodgson will try to avoid relegation at all costs this season and might look to the future with the hope of making the club, a Premier League regular. In his attempts to build for the future, talents like Ben Godfrey could flourish at Selhurst Park if he is able to persuade the teenager into joining them.
The 19-year-old English midfielder has made 22 appearances for the Shrews this season and has got bags of experience under his belt. He has also played for Norwich City in the Championship and has featured in 6 matches for the Canaries. With Premier League clubs Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City all lining up moves for his services, the potential lure of Premier League football might be too much for the teenager to resist. It remains to be seen whether the Eagles can fend off strong competition from fellow Premier League clubs in pursuit of the teenage starlet’s signature.
