Atletico Madrid is ready to let their forward Yannick Carrasco leave when the transfer window opens in January. Some sources are claiming that the Belgian international is set to depart the club next month with Chelsea and Bayern Munich set to be keeping tabs on the player.
The Blues have already made an attempt to sign the 24-year-old in the summer but failed to convince the La Liga club to part ways with their forward. However, the situation has changed now with the Spanish club preparing to go through a transitional period and are planning a massive overhaul of the squad following their disappointing performance in this edition of the Champions League which saw them get eliminated in the group stages.
A recent report in the Spanish press has suggested that the Madrid club has decided to let him go in January in order to generate some funds to bring in a few new players. Atletico boss Diego Simeone has struggled to manage the player after his recent altercations with teammates and coaches in the past few years. His situation at the club has reached a dire stage where Carrasco was left fuming when his side blocked him from making a trip back to Belgium while he was sidelined with an injury.
Carrasco has fallen down the pecking order at Wanda Metropolitano and now finds himself amongst the three players set to depart the club in January. This latest development will alert the likes of Chelsea who are desperate for some quality in the final third after the London club has fallen off the pace in the Premier League title race. Antonio Conte’s men currently find themselves in third place in the league table, a massive 16 points behind leaders Manchester City. They have scored 34 times in the league in this campaign in 20 matches but are in dire need of some quality in the attacking third after being overly reliant on the talents of Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata so far.
The Belgian international has featured in 18 matches for Atletico Madrid in all competitions and has scored 3 goals and made 4 assists during this season. There is no doubt about his quality which would be a welcome addition to this Chelsea team. Another goal-threat in Conte’s starting eleven can help them bridge the gap to Manchester City as their squad looks to fight in all four competitions in the second half of the season.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea are successful in their attempts to sign the wantaway Atletico Madrid forward.
