A 2-1 win on the night was enough to see the Blues reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup as the current Premier League champions took on Bournemouth. Conte did not start with most of his first-team players in the side for the fixture and had to wait a long time to get the goal that decided the match in their favour, with Alvaro Morata scoring the winner late in the match after he came off the bench.
Here is how the Chelsea players are rated on the night.
Willy Caballero – 5
A rare start from him, only had to save from Callum Wilson after the break. Could not have done much about the goal he conceded.
Antonio Rudiger – 6
Used his strength well to keep up Lys Mousset in the opening minutes. Made a good interception when he came across well to cut out the danger when Mousset was running through clear on goal.
Ethan Ampadu – 8
A rare start for the teenage sensation, he kept his own on the pitch. Received a booking after only 90 seconds for a late tackle on Jermain Defoe and was walking a tightrope after that but that hardly impeded his performance on the night. Brilliant tackle to stop Adam Smith bursting into the box. Calm and composed in the heart of defence just as Conte would want.
Gary Cahill – 6
The captain made a silly mistake when he let Adam Smith get the better of him early on but recovered after that well to keep control of the defence.
Davide Zappacosta – 4
The Italian had a tired night down the right. Couldn’t make any progress down the flank and looks like he needs some rest.
Danny Drinkwater – 5
Very quiet first half from the summer signing and the Chelsea fans will want to see more of him as he returns to full fitness.
Cesc Fabregas – 7
A good range of passing was put on display yet again as he put Willian through for the opening goal.
Kenedy – 7
A brilliant backheel from the Brazilian to play in Fabregas for Willian’s strike as he put in a hardworking display for the team.
Willian – 8
A tap-in goal that helped Chelsea get underway he was clearly injured when he made way for Eden Hazard on the hour mark.
Pedro – 6
Some great play set up Batshuayi who was not in the mood to score tonight
Michy Batshuayi – 5
Could not get a goal despite working hard for the team.
Substitutes
Eden Hazard – 7
Set up Morata when it mattered as he racked up another assist.
Tiemoue Bakayoko – 5
Brought on to tighten the midfield and did so well.
Alvaro Morata – 8
Scored a good goal to cover up for his mistake at the other end leading to Bournemouth’s goal.
