Chelsea boss, Antonio Conte wants to swap David Luiz with AC Milan’s Leonardo Bonucci, according to reports. Both defenders are not settled in their current sides and are highly likely to get traded in the upcoming transfer window.
David Luiz’s career at Chelsea has transcended to heavy speculation with the Brazilian falling out favour with Conte and the January transfer window approaching fast. He was dropped from the squad after a poor defensive display in a 0-3 loss to AS Roma, ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Manchester United in the Premier League.
As per reports, Luiz faced heavy criticism from Conte after the match and had decided to confront the Italian over singling him out for the defeat. The exchange did not sit well with the manager as Luiz saw himself get banished from the training session ahead of the matchup with Mourinho’s men. He saw his side win the game 1-0 at Stamford Bridge from the stands.
Luiz was a regular starter last season and was crucial for Conte’s side to get the Premier League title. Very disciplined with his positioning and restricted from surging forward like he usually likes to do, Luiz did exactly what Andreas Christensen has been doing this season.
However, with the 30-year-old offering his services to Catalan giants, Barcelona in the past week it can be concluded that a transfer moves away from Stamford Bridge is imminent.
Bonucci, on the other hand, is not having a good time in the Serie A with AC Milan. The Rossoneri are looking nowhere near their best form in the recent times in the Europa League as well as domestic competitions placed at the 8th spot of the points table.
Bonucci arrived at the San Siro in a shock transfer for a reported fee of €42m and has so far failed to make an impact for the side this season.
The 30-year-old centre-back might have to reconsider his future at the San Siro and make up his mind for a move away from the club. Reuniting with his former boss who still holds him to high praise can turn his entire season around as he will look to return to Champions League football.
However, a swap deal always gets complicated when both clubs value their players differently. In the current climate, Bonucci might have the slight edge to the Brazilian with after his big money arrival in the summer. Therefore a move along with a certain amount of cash can be expected for the Italian’s services. The real question lies in whether the Chelsea board will agree to it.
