Having won four games on the trot in the Scottish Premiership, Rangers lost 1-3 at the Ibrox Stadium on Saturday at the hands of St. Johnstone as their weaknesses surfaced once again. The Gers are now placed at the 3rd spot in the top division table with 36 points to their name after 19 games. The upcoming January transfer window is going to be crucial for them to beef up their arsenal and to eradicate their loopholes.
Rangers’ Director of Football, Mark Allen, has been penning down the possible targets for the club and as per one of the latest reports put forth by The Scottish Sun, the Glasgow-based outfit are perceived to be very keen to sign Brighton & Hove Albion’s attacker, Jamie Murphy. After the promotion to the Premier League, the Seagulls have overlooked Murphy and this could be an excellent opportunity for the Light Blues to capitalize upon. He is a fine player and there is no doubt in that.
Brighton’s summer signing, Jose Izquierdo, has nailed down his place on the left flank and thus, Murphy’s stature has been reduced to that of a deputy. So far this season, the 28-year-old has been handed merely 1 start and 3 substitute appearances by the manager, Chris Hughton. He is a player who possesses a significant amount of experience under his belt and it goes without saying that the player himself might be looking for an exit to get regular game time for himself.
The Scot emerged through the youth ranks of Clyde and Motherwell and was eventually promoted to the senior side of the latter. He made a name for himself while plying his trade with the Steelmen and was subsequently lured by Sheffield United. Then he joined Brighton in the summer of 2015, helping them last season in the Championship to earn an automatic promotion. His current scenario with the Premier League outfit isn’t appealing and he might fancy a move to the ranks of Rangers.
Murphy holds the ball really well and creates ample amount of opportunities for his side. He is a cool customer and doesn’t commit himself to rash tackles. Besides, he passes the ball well, toils relentlessly and is versatile enough to operate as a striker as well. At this moment, the Teddy Bears do need more of experienced personnel who have the experience of Scottish Premiership and this might be the prime reason for their apparent interest in Murphy.
