Borussia Dortmund managed to pull off a sensational comeback as they registered their second victory on the trot against Hoffenheim this weekend.
The visiting Hoffenheim took the lead early on through Mark Uth. However, the Dortmund side remained calm and composed throughout the game and eventually found their equalizer in the 63rd minute when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang converted the penalty.
Just when it was looking to be heading to a stalemate, Christian Pulisic appeared with a moment of magic, in the final minutes of the game to snatch all three points for Dortmund.
Here are the Dortmund players rated and slated in their impressive win over Hoffenheim.
Roman Burki (7/10):
Didn’t really have anything special to do apart from those regular saves. The Swiss looked a little hesitant in his overall goalkeeping tonight.
Jeremy Toljan (8.5/10):
Was very secure in possession but was guilty of being a little too slow in the possession phases. That being said, however, the former TSG fullback served himself as a constant threat on the right flank.
Sokratis (8/10):
A very composed performance from the Greek International. Sokratis’ form has been revitalized after the appointment of Peter Stoger it seems.
Omer Toprak (8/10):
Was very busy in defence, but the Turkish International fared really well throughout the game. He looked significantly better than his recent performances under Peter Bosz.
Marcel Schmelzer (7/10):
Looked a little off today, compared to other BVB defenders. The Dortmund captain made some hasty decisions and was equally rusty in defence.
Julian Weigl (7.5/10):
Sat as the midfield hub for Dortmund. The German International is finally getting back to his former rhythm it seems, after the departure of Peter Bosz. Weigl was an important part of Dortmund’s build-up phase where he had an impressive pass completion rate of 90%.
Shinji Kagawa (8/10):
Kagawa was completely ineffective in the first half but his second-half performance made a huge difference. His neat and tidy passes coupled with some great through balls unsettled the opposing defence more than once this evening.
Raphael Guerreiro (7.5/10):
He was ineffective for the most period of the game as he was completely isolated by the Hoffenheim midfielders. Although he did start to have more freedom in the second half and therefore, was involved in few of BVB’s attacking moments.
Andriy Yarmolenko (7.5/10):
The Ukrainian International was a menace on the right flank, especially in the first half. However, his lack of end product is a massive cause for concern.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (7/10):
Was largely a spectator for the most period of the game as the Gabonese didn’t have much space to work with, in the attacking areas. He converted the penalty with full confidence but followed it up with a horrendous miss later on, in what might easily be the miss of the season so far.
Christian Pulisic (9/10):
Pulisic was largely isolated by the Hoffenheim defenders on the far side. However, he started to have more freedom once he switched to the left flank, where he made a big impact with his runs in behind the defence. Pulled off a spectacular moment of brilliance to hand his side all three points in the dying minutes of the game.
Subs
Mahmoud Dahoud (7/10):
Didn’t really have an impact after coming on for Andriy Yarmolenko for the final phase of the game.
Neven Subotic (NA):
Was brought in at the final minutes to provide more defensive cover in order to see out the goal lead.
