According to reports, German champions Bayern Munich could make a shock January move for Arsenal’s star striker Olivier Giroud.
The Bavarians are looking to flush some cash in the market in order to secure an alternative option for Polish frontman Robert Lewandowski. While, there have been a lot of names that are included in Bayern’s shortlist, including former Bayern striker Sandro Wagner, Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud has been a hot topic for the Bavarians in recent weeks.
Following the signing of Alexandre Lacazette in the summer, the rumours about Olivier Giroud’s potentially uncertain future at the club erupted, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund interested in the services of the French striker.
But the question stands – can Arsenal afford to let their star striker leave the Emirates in January?
Well, the answer should be a resounding NO.
Even though the Gunners have enjoyed terrific success with the signing of Alexandre Lacazette, Giroud still remains a pivotal part of Arsenal’s attack.
The former Lyon striker has netted six goals in 13 Premier League games so far this season. However, Lacazette’s recent goal-scoring form hasn’t been great, as the Frenchman has scored only two goals in his last seven PL outings and that’s where fellow compatriot, Oliver Giroud comes into play.
While Giroud may not have the best scoring tally in the Premier League, the veteran striker has the quality and persistence to prevail in big games. His rather impressive experience in the Premier League coupled with his known ability as a goal-poacher could play a vital role for Arsenal for the remainder of the season.
Even though the 31-year-old has scored only once in the league this season, it’s also worth mentioning the fact that he has played only 176 minutes of Premier League football. Therefore, it’s clearly obvious that Giroud can serve as a great backup striker, especially for Lacazette.
The current Gunners number nine is more of a ball playing striker, who loves to link up with his teammates and occasionally create chances for himself. On the flip side, however, Olivier Giroud is someone who thrives when given the right amount of opportunities. The 31-year-old prevails, especially when his team are failing to find any openings in order to dismantle the opposition defence. His enormous aerial prowess quite often bails his team out from tricky situations.
Olivier Giroud is indeed, a vital cog in the Arsenal attack and the French International could play a vital role for the remainder of the season. Therefore, losing the ageing striker isn’t an option for the Gunners, at the very moment.
