Reports have emerged that, Chelsea defender, David Luiz has offered his services to Barcelona. The 30-year-old is currently receiving medical treatment for his injured knee in Spain and has not passed up the opportunity to approach the La Liga giants.
Recent revelations also point towards the fact that the Brazilian Defender has been given the green light to leave the Blues in January if any club puts up an offer.
Luiz was one of the club’s best defenders under Conte in Chelsea’s previous title-winning season but has not featured for his side in recent times. He was dropped from the squad after a poor defensive display in a 0-3 loss to AS Roma, ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Manchester United in the Premier League. Currently, the centre-back position is being filled up by Danish youngster, Andreas Christensen who has been impressive for the blues.
Luiz faced heavy criticism from Conte after the match and had decided to confront the Italian over singling him out for the defeat. The exchange did not sit well with the manager as Luiz saw himself get banished from the training session ahead of the matchup with Mourinho’s men. He saw his side win the game 1-0 at Stamford Bridge from the stands.
Luiz’s last appearance came in a 0-4 win against Qarabag Agdam in 22nd November. But ever since then, reports claim he is suffering from heavy inflammation in his knees. The Brazilian appeared for light training sessions all by himself mostly restricted to the pool or the treatment room.
The news of Luiz’s transfer comes as a surprise after hearing Conte’s statements ahead of Chelsea’s weekend fixture against Southampton. The Italian revealed that Luiz is still in plans at least for the remainder of the season and that there is no bad blood between the two.
Javier Mascherano have been linked to a move away from the club to China after falling out of favour with Ernesto Valverde. He has so far registered only 10 appearances in all competitions for the club this season and is eager to play out this season with more game time. A move to China will ensure that along with a lucrative deal.
With Mascherano gone, Barcelona will require a technically adept defender to replace him. Luiz has racked up loads of experience after playing for Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain and might be the perfect addition to the squad for the remainder of the season.
