Having failed to get into the top-4 of the points table for the first time in over two decades, last season, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal are no closer to turning that around this season, as they currently stranded in the 6th place in the points table. The club is in danger of losing two of their most talented stars in Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, who are not ready to extend their stay at Emirates and this has seen Wenger scout for some of the finest players in Europe, as replacements.
A number of star players are constantly linked with a move to the Emirates recently and one name now doing the rounds is Belgian winger Yannick Carrasco.
A transfer target for clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool, Carrasco is easily one of the most exciting wingers on show in Europe and reports today claim that Diego Simeone, the Atletico Madrid manager is ready to off load the 24-year old soon. So is he an option for Arsenal?
A product of the academy at Genk, Carrasco moved to Atletico Madrid back in 2015 from AS Monaco and has always been a productive outlet on the wing. He has 17 goals and 8 assists in 76 La Liga appearances just over two years including three goals and three assists in just 5 league starts this season.
He also has 22 caps for the Belgian national side and is already an established player at the highest stage. A winger by trait, Carrasco can play on either flank and is known for his ability to score from long range. He has blistering pace and decent dribbling skills but his vision and passing technique is what makes him a dangerous winger.
He is adept at crossing but is more comfortable cutting in and making space for his team mates or shooting on goal and has been effective in that role for most his career. At just 24, he is a superb long-term option for even the best clubs in Europe and will be a superb hit at the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger’s squad lacks natural width, with the likes of Ozil and Sanchez playing on the wings in attack. Theo Walcott and Alex Iwobi are the closes they have to out right wingers but neither of them are regular first team options for Wenger.
To add to it, both Sanchez and Ozil might need replacements and Carrasco is as good an option as they can find any time soon.
He was rated at around £90m in the summer but with Atletico Madrid ready to let him leave, he could be available for a cheaper price, which will definitely make him a steal. But do you think he is the right man for Wenger?
