Arsenal are planning to make a move for PSV Eindhoven attacking midfielder Hirving Lozano. According to recent reports, the Gunners are set to launch a bid in the region of £42.3m to bring the Mexican youngster to the Emirates. The 22-year-old joined PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie from Mexican club Pachuca last summer. He is highly versatile and can play in a number of attacking positions which include playing on either flank but is most comfortable in the attacking midfield position. Some reports from Mexico claim that his performances in the top tier of Dutch football have caught the eye of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger this season.
It is being reported that the Gunners are keen on securing his services and could be willing to splash the cash and spend up to £42.3m in their attempts to persuade PSV into selling their star player which will mean that Lozano would become the most expensive Mexican player in history. The midfielder’s versatility is something that appeals to Wenger, who is looking to replace both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil as they are set to depart the club when the transfer window opens next month or at the end of the season. The Mexican is accustomed to playing on either wing but is more suited to displaying his talents on the right so that he can cut in and use his left foot to create chances and score goals.
Lozano has expressed his desire to move to Old Trafford after being heavily linked with Manchester United in the past year. In a recent interview, he admitted:
‘I believe many leagues are beautiful. I like the English and the Spanish very much,’
‘But let’s see how things are and decide. The one I would like most is Manchester United. I like this club a lot and it’s a very important club.’
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal can convince the 22-year-old to join the London side as they try to build for the future. With two of their most promising stars set to depart soon, Wenger will be desperate to plug the holes in midfield and acquiring the Mexican’s services at the Emirates can go a long way towards addressing their situation. The North London outfit currently sit in fifth place in the Premier League table, just a point off the Top 4 places. The Gunners are desperate to qualify for the Champions League and if they are successful in their attempts to finish in the top four, they might be able to attract top talents like Lozano once again.
The Mexican has featured in 18 matches for PSV in all competitions and has scored 11 goals and made 6 assists so far this season.
