A high-scoring adrenaline infused matchup between Arsenal and Liverpool ended 3-3 with both sides giving away the lead at some point of the game. Liverpool were in full control over the first half and could have killed the game off with multiple open chances. They got an early lead from Philippe Coutinho’s header in the 26th minute.
It looked like the match was over after Mohamed Salah’s deflected shot sailed into the back of the net in the 52nd minute to give Liverpool the 2 goal lead. But Arsenal would not go away. They slammed on the pressure and tapped in 3 goals within a span of just 5 minutes. Jurgen Klopp’s men were left dazed and confused as they failed to register what had just happened. The Emirates was soaring with the bellows of the Gunners in full swing only to be quieted down by Roberto Firmino’s close-range equaliser.
It was a nail-biting experience right until the very end.
Petr Cech – 7/10
Do not pay any heed to the scoreline. If it were not for Cech, Arsenal would have been down by at least a couple of more goals. He put up a firm hand to Roberto Firmino’s shot but unfortunately saw it bounce into the back of the net behind him to give away the 3rd goal to Liverpool.
Hector Bellerin – 4/10
The Spaniard found himself in acres of space down the right flank but could not manage to put in one decent ball into the path of Lacazette.
Laurent Koscielny – 4/10
A shambolic display from the experienced Frenchman. Could barely read any of the Liverpool attacks and allowed Salah and Mane to run rampant throughout the game.
Nacho Monreal – 4/10
An improved display but still uncomfortable in the centre-back role.
Ainsley Maitland -Niles – 3/10
The 20-year-old was completely out of his element today giving away possession in the Arsenal half far too often.
Granit Xhaka – 6/10
The goal came as a saving grace to what can be called an incompetent display from the Swiss international. Barely half of his passes ended up on the feet of his own teammates.
Jack Wilshere – 8/10
Wilshere’s effort could not be faulted tonight with the 25-year-old covering every blade of grass for the Gunners. He took over the distribution responsibilities and linked up with everybody to formulate the Arsenal attacks.
Mesut Ozil – 6/10
The fatigue was pretty evident in the German maestro with most of his passes picked up by the opposition players. However, he put in a decent shift and gave Arsenal the lead for a short period in the second half from a tidy finish.
Alexis Sanchez – 4/10
The Chilean has lost all his flair and pomp with a lacklustre display tonight. Predictable touches on the ball and completely ineffective in breaking down the Liverpool defence.
Alexandre Lacazette – 5/10
Lacazette did his best to stretch the opposition defence line but went wrong with his decision-making in front of goal.
Alex Iwobi – 3/10
Sloppy with ball and ineffective.
Substitutes:
Shkrodan Mustafi – 7/10
Did well to adjust to the pace of the game after coming on in the second half.
