Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven has always been host to some exciting talent who bigger clubs around the world are constantly scouting for. This season as well, there are a number of stars who are impressing in the Dutch domestic league and one such player attracting interests from a number of English clubs is Mexican talent Hirving Lozano.
A winger by trait, the 22-year old can also play as a false9 and has been in sensational form, registering 11 goals and four assists in just 16 Eredivisie starts this season. He was a transfer target for Arsenal even in the summer and reports now claim that the Gunners are expected to go back for him in the next couple of transfer windows.
However, they are now facing a major issue as they will have to fight Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool for the youngster’s signature. Both teams are expected to lose star players in before the start of the next season and want Lozano to replace them in the first team. At 22, he has the potential to be a super star but which clubs is a better fit for Lozano?
Known for his dead ball delivery and ability to score from long range, Lozano is adept at beating his man on the wing and putting in crosses that most striker’s only dream of. He averages almost two key passes per game this season and with better players around, he will surely improve on his output in front of goal.
His versatility adds dynamism to his side and both English clubs will be desperate to sign him up in the first instance.
At the Emirates, Wenger needs a replacement for star duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, both of who are unwilling to sign on new deals at the club. Lozano is nowhere near either of those names and is hardly a readymade option. He will need some time to settle in and impress in England, and cannot be a replacement for either of those names.
Neither can he replace Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, who is destined to end up at Barcelona, before the start of the next season. At just 22, the 24-cap Mexican international needs to work on his defensive discipline and industry during games, the lack of which makes him not such a good option for the Anfield outfit.
However, his potential is right up there with the best and most teams would love to have him at his disposal and at the moment, a move to the Emirates is what will benefit his career.
Wenger is an experienced nurturer of natural talent and lack of genuine wingers at the club could see Lozano establish himself in the first team even quicker than expected. He may not have an immediate impact but he certainly adds more to the Arsenal squad than to the Liverpool squad, who already have the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Oxlade-Chamberlain, to play on the wings, even if Coutinho leaves.
Where do you think Lozano will fit in best?
