With the January transfer window opening in a few days, teams are planning a list of their potential targets in order to beef up the quality of their side, and the Premier League sides aren’t going to be any different. Although the league now seems to be more of a one-sided affair in favour of Manchester City, who are unarguably the favourites to clinch the silverware, a top-four finish is certainly in the offing for other big guns.
Arsenal are one of the sides who are going to be a serious contender for earning a Champions League spot this time around. However, it would not be easy for the Gunners, as the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are looking decent as well. It would be important for Arsene Wenger to make some additions in January to enhance his side’s calibre and as per one of the latest reports by Marca, they are perceived to target Jose Arnaiz.
The Barcelona youngster arrived at Camp Nou in the summer from Valladolid and despite being the top scorer for Barcelona B, Arnaiz hasn’t been handed a single appearance in the league. However, he caught the eye of the football fraternity after his performance in the Copa del Rey and it is believed that Arsenal are ready to meet his release clause of €20million in order to make him sign on the dotted line and bring him to the Emirates Stadium next month.
Wenger is looking to add new wingers and strikers as some of the current players he has at his disposal are either nearing the end of their current deal or are intrigued by the idea of leaving the North London based outfit. The club needs to look for its future now and that is precisely the reason why they are targeting Arnaiz. The 22-year-old is a tricky winger with raw pace in his legs and has the inclination to score goals on a regular basis as well.
Under the tutelage of Ernesto Valverde, Arnaiz is unlikely to get much game time under his belt in the foreseeable future and it would not be absurd on his part to vouch for an exit to keep his development process up and running. However, his lack of experience of English football might be a prospect to ponder upon and signing him would inherently bring the element of risk, and thus, it would be interesting to see whether the move actually materializes.
