Arsenal are looking to get back in their stride once again in the Premier League, having not started this term in the best of ways. The Gunners notched up a hard-fought point from their last encounter against Liverpool, which ended in a 3-3 draw at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.
With the chance of winning the supreme prize in the English top flight football looking almost out of their reach, the North London club are now looking to finish at least in the top four, a feat they were not able to achieve in the last term. The fans are quite annoyed at the lapse of discipline in the side, especially in the backline and there is only one way to appease them, to bring in a new defender and solidify the shaky defence.
As per recent reports, the player that Arsenal have been eyeing for some time now to take on the defensive responsibilities for their side is currently plying his trade at the Bundesliga club, Mainz. Abdou Diallo, the 21-year-old centre back has carved an important figure at the German outfit since his arrival in the summer transfer window from AS Monaco. He has attracted the attention of a number of big-name clubs including the North London outfit, who currently are in dire need to beef up their backline.
Arsene Wenger has deployed his players in a number of formations since the last term but nothing seems to work for him on a permanent basis, leading his side down to the sixth position in the league table. However, the Frenchman might have come to the conclusion that perhaps it is not the formations but the players that need to be changed to bring them back in contention to end in the top four this season.
With the January transfer window right on its brink of opening, the Gunners will be wishing to do good business and bring in some top class players into their side, including the French U21 captain Diallo. The player has been one of the emerging stars in his country and has earned rave reviews from a number of experts from all over Europe owing to his ability to appear as a rock-solid entity in front of his goal.
The inclusion of the former Borussia Dortmund scout Sven Mislintat this season has also added a big boost in their pursuit of the 21-year-old centre-back and it is expected that the Gunners will be able to sign him as their very first player in the upcoming January transfer window.
