Rangers suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Kilmarnock at the Rugby Park on Saturday and having lost to St. Johnstone prior to it, the Gers do find themselves under pressure to perform at this stroke of the hour in the Scottish Premiership.
Graeme Murty’s men are currently placed at the 3rd spot in the league table with 36 points to their name after 20 games. On Wednesday, they face Motherwell at the Ibrox Stadium and here is how we expect Rangers to line up against the Steelmen.
Defence
David Bates started against Kilmarnock at the central defence, but this time around, we expect veteran defender in the shape of Bruno Alves to be stationed at the heart of Rangers’ defence. Alongside him, Danny Wilson would be a sensible option and both these defenders should be able to inject requisite resilience to the backline.
At the right-back position, James Tavernier has been an excellent package for the Glasgow-based club and should continue to offer his industry down the right, whereas at the left-back slot, Declan John is expected to be given the nod to start, this time as a natural fullback. Wes Foderingham is unlikely to be dropped and should keep his place between the sticks.
Midfield
Ross McCrorie has been one of the positives for the Light Blues and he should be lined up for the defensive midfielder’s role. He has been in a fine touch this season and dropping him would certainly not be at the back of the mind of Murty.
The duo, comprising of Jason Holt and Ryan Jack, is anticipated to be pencilled at the central midfield. Holt has been finding regular game time under his belt and the latter is seemingly likely to be put to use once again after serving his one-match ban.
Attack
Alfredo Morelos would be a decent choice up front to lead the attack for the Teddy Bears. The 21-year-old has smashed 9 goals in 18 Scottish Premiership appearances so far this season and would undoubtedly be keen to add a goal or two to his tally in the upcoming fixture.
Although Daniel Candeias hasn’t been able to showcase immense attacking prowess of late, Murty is likely to continue with his, although he needs to start delivering in a better manner. At the left-wing, Josh Windass should start yet again and it goes without saying that he would be one of the first names to be pencilled in the starting line-up.
