Watford suffered a midweek setback against Manchester United when one of their former players came back to Vicarage Road to haunt them. Ashley Young scored a first-half brace to make it an uphill task for the Hornets. Anthony Martial added to the Red Devils’ lead which saw Watford go into half-time 3-0 down. Marco Silva’s men responded strongly and got back into the game after the break scoring two goals in the last 15 minutes to give themselves a chance of snatching a point. However, Jesse Lingard finished in the 86th minute to make sure that the points were secure for Jose Mourinho’s men.
Marco Silva will look to bounce back immediately against Tottenham Hotspur this week. Watford can go level on points with Spurs if they can manage to pick up a victory on Saturday. The Hornets’ manager is expected to make two changes for the match against Mauricio Pochettino’s men. Will Hughes is likely to miss out after suffering a hamstring injury against Manchester United while Miguel Britos is in a race against time to be fit for the game. The Uruguayan defender will replace Sebastian Prödl in the starting eleven if the Watford boss decided to call upon his services. Marco Silva is also likely to stick to his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation for the Spurs game at Vicarage Road on Saturday. He will be in for a tactical battle as the Spurs boss is also set to deploy a similar 3-5-1-1 formation.
3-4-2-1 Watford Predicted Lineup To Face Tottenham Hotspur
Defence
Heurelho Gomes is likely to retain his place in goal for the Hornets. He will be protected by a back three of Adrian Mariappa, Christian Kabasele and Miguel Britos, pending the Uruguayan defender can fully recover from his injury. Otherwise, Marco Silva will probably stick with Sebastian Prödl to take up the role of left centre-back.
Midfield
Kiko Femenia and Marvin Zeegelaar will likely resume their roles as the wing-backs for this Hornets team. They have been in good form this season and will once again try to find the right balance between defence and attack. The duo is expected to go up against Spurs’ Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier respectively so it will be a good watch to see who comes out on top.
Tom Cleverley and Abdoulaye Doucoure are expected to retain their central midfield partnership once again.
Attack
Will Hughes is out of the game with a hamstring injury so Roberto Pereyra is likely to start with Richarlison as part of the advanced roles in midfield just behind striker Andre Gray.
Troy Deeney is also pushing for a recall after he came on to score from the penalty spot in the game against Manchester United in midweek.
