Oldham Athletic’s defender, Rob Hunt, has been one of the most intriguing prospects in League 1 so far this season, owing to the notable contributions he has made for his current employers and the calibre he has showcased. Hunt made a permanent move to the ranks of the Latics this summer after he was sent out on loan by Brighton & Hove Albion in the January transfer window of 2017 as his impressive loan spell urged Oldham to sign him permanently.
He has continued his form and his endeavours this season have persuaded many Championship clubs to put him on their radar, as one of the latest reports by HITC suggested. Back in February, HITC’s sources had stated that Leeds United were keenly tracking his progress and with the transfer window opening in less than a month, it would be wise on the part of Thomas Christiansen to take a thorough look into the 22-year-old and see whether his addition could help the Whites during the second half of the season.
Under the tutelage of Christiansen, the Yorkshire-based club haven’t endured a spectacular season so far in the English second division as they have managed to secure 30 points from their first 20 encounters and are currently placed at the 8th spot in the league table. If the Peacocks are to mount a serious challenge for bagging a promotion to the Promised Land of Premier League, they would need to beef up their arsenal and the January transfer window would be an excellent opportunity to do the needful.
The right-back position has emerged as one of the problematic areas for Leeds United of late as Luke Ayling’s performances have been far from satisfactory. While Lewie Coyle has been making a lot of buzz this season in his loan spell with Fleetwood Town, his progress should not be disturbed and thus, it would make a lot of sense if Christiansen attempts to lure Hunt to the Elland Road in the January transfer window to redress his backline.
Hunt emerged through the youth ranks of the Seagulls and has cemented his place in Oldham Athletic’s line-up by displaying his talents week in and week out, but he certainly lacks the requisite experience under his belt to make him a thoroughly reliable asset for Leeds United. Signing him would certainly involve undertaking a substantial amount of risk as well and that should be something at the back of the mind of Christiansen.
