Fiorentina striker, Frederico Chiesa has been linked to Premier League clubs, Tottenham Hotspurs and Liverpool. Reportedly valued at £53million the 20-year-old has also fallen on the radar of Juventus, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Italy Under-21 star has made 41 appearances for Fiorentina, making his official debut on the opening day of the 2016/17 season in a 2-1 defeat to Juventus. Since the beginning of the 2017-18, the Italian can play out wide or through the middle and has been involved in 7 goals.
Chiesa, who has played in a number of positions in the frontline for Fiorentina this season, has scored three times in 10 appearances for Italy’s Under-21 team.
With Fiorentina not in the Champions League, Chiesa would be eligible to play in the competition for any club that purchased him. Therefore a transfer in the January window will be highly beneficial to all the big European suitors.
The son of former Italy international has displayed great footballing intelligence in front of goal and has completely won over Viola fans. “My dad once told me: you become a Serie A player when you have made at least 300 appearances.” No wonder the striker has inherited the talent but also has high ambitions to fill the boots of his father.
Although a contention for a title might not be a realistic target, Pochettino would not mind replicating their last season results and finish 2nd in the Premier League. The Spurs have been impressive in Europe as well and has topped the Group Stage of the Champions League ahead of Spanish giants, Real Madrid. However, their European campaign affected the squad quite a lot and saw them drop precious points in the Premier League.
Pochettino understands the importance of squad depth to compete in both the competitions not to mention the FA Cup and the League Cup as well.
Harry Kane is still the leading man in the attacking lineup under Pochettino with 18 goals in 22 appearances this season. The England international is set to appear for the national team in the FIFA World Cup 2018 and is hungry to increase that tally with consistent performances in front of goal.
But the 24-year-old’s services might be hard to tie down at the club if more ambitious offers come in by the end of the season.
If Kane does end up leaving the Spurs for an astronomical fee to a European powerhouse, Chiesa can be the replacement Pochettino can work with from next season.
