Sparta Rotterdam midfielder Deroy Duarte has revealed that he is interested in making a move to Chelsea in the near future. Some sources are claiming that the 18-year-old is dreaming of a move to Stamford Bridge after some eye-catching performances in the Dutch Eredivisie since he broke into the Sparta Rotterdam first-team. Duarte made his debut for the Dutch club in their opening game of the season against VVV Venlo and has gone on to make 13 appearances for Sparta Rotterdam scoring 2 goals and making one assist so far in this campaign.
A recent report suggested that the midfielder was recently spotted wearing a Chelsea training top and subsequently spoke with Fox Sports in an interview about a possible move to Stamford Bridge in the near future. The Sparta Rotterdam midfielder said, “I’ve been following Chelsea from a very early age. Chelsea is certainly a club where my ambitions lie.”
The Rotterdam born player is highly versatile and can play anywhere in central midfield whether as an attacking threat or in a deeper role. He can also play on the right flank and has featured in some matches in that position before. His versatility will definitely be an asset for Chelsea if they are able to sign him as they look to find a long-term replacement for Cesc Fabregas. The Blues of London have made a habit of signing youth stars but their chances have been limited so far at Stamford Bridge. The Londoners are more accustomed to loaning their young talents and then selling them for a significant profit in the future.
Chelsea are currently in third place in the Premier League standings, 14 points behind the leaders Manchester City. Antonio Conte will go into the busy Christmas period hoping that the Citizens will drop points to try and close the gap at the top. For now, it seems highly unlikely that the Blues can make use of Duarte’s services but a possible move in the future and then loaning him out to continue his development might be a better-suited option for the club.
The Dutch starlet has already represented his nation at the youth level featuring three times for the Netherlands Under-18 team and in six matches for their Under-19 team. He is yet to score an international goal but will be hoping that it will change soon. He has also appeared in 30 matches for the Sparta Rotterdam youth team and has scored 12 goals while making 5 assists before making a breakthrough into their first-team.
There is no doubt about Duarte’s massive potential but whether Chelsea decides to make a move for him in the near future remains to be seen.
