English Championship giants Wolverhampton Wanderers are well on their way to a promotion to the Premier League next season. After 16 matchdays, the Wolves are leading the table, having scored the most goals in the league so far.
Wolves owners – the Chinese investment company Fosun International, have also promised head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, that they are fully committed, in transforming this club into a European elite in the coming years, should they manage to win promotion this season.
In the meantime, however, the Portuguese head coach is interested in the securing a permanent deal for star striker Leo Bonatini. The Brazilian striker, on loan from Saudi Arabian Professional League club Al-Hilal, is having a wonderful season in the Championships, scoring ten goals in just 16 matches, along with four assists.
Bonatini has been a vital part of his club’s success this campaign, as he stepped up his game quite brilliantly to help Wolves devour their opponents.
Most importantly, however, Bonatini has been much more involved in his team’s success than one would think. Aside from his impressive scoring tally this campaign, the 23-year-old has taken part in the build-up phases and his tremendous work-rate has really made him an instant fan-favourite at the Molineux Stadium.
The former Cruzeiro starlet is a no-nonsense striker, who is not afraid to take his chances. The Brazilian is actually on a six-game scoring streak at the moment and is leading the race for the top-goalscorer crown with ten goals.
Although the Wolves are expected to make some new signings in the winter transfer window, any injury to Bonatini will significantly decrease their goal-scoring prowess in front of goal.
Good thing for the Wolves, however, is that Bonatini himself is willing to stay at the club for longer than the rest of this season. In an interview, the Brazilian confirmed that he is keen to stay in England.
As a striker I hope to score goals and help my team,” he said this week. “I’m glad this is all happening. We are in first place and we have a solid and close group.
“The moments that we live on the pitch show it’s worth the daily sacrifice.
“The Championship is a very good level. It’s a very fast league” – he added.
Furthermore, the club has an option to buy him permanently, meaning the chances of him signing a permanent deal with Wolverhampton are very high. Considering the fact that the Wolves are kind of lacking centre forwards at the moment, Leo Bonatini is going to play a vital role at the club for the rest of the season and beyond.
