If everything goes the right way Wolves will be seen in the Premier League next season. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have blown away the Championship with some scintillating football and have maintained their progress since the start of the season.
It has been a flying start for the side who had a quite busy summer transfer window and it seems they have utilized the money in a proper way. However, the gaffer is still in two minds in some prospect and is likely to use the winter transfer window to strengthen their position.
Sunderland striker Lewis Grabban has been linked with a move to Molineux in January. The 29-year-old arrived at the Stadium of Light in summer on loan from Bournemouth and has already lightened the league with his goalscoring charts.
Wolves are slightly slim in the attacking department as apart from Leo Bonatini Santo doesn’t have many options up front and he wants a change in this situation. Bournemouth have a recall option on the contract and should they decide to trigger that Sunderland would be in deep trouble.
The Black Cats don’t have the financial muscle and if Wolves do come calling with a lucrative offer they would be helpless. Chris Coleman’s side are currently languishing in the 22nd position and any chance of their survival would evaporate in the air if Grabban leaves the club.
Sunderland gaffer Coleman is pretty impressed by Grabban’ efforts and has praised the player’s quality. “Lewis is offering himself to the cause by scoring goals, he keeps on scoring which is a huge positive.”
Grabban is arguably Sunderland’s best arrival in summer and his 10 goals in 15 matches in the second tier speak volumes about his quality. Wolves haven’t really struggled for goals as it has been a combined effort from the players but in this hectic season, Santo wants to ease of the burden of Bonatini who has been pretty extensively exploited by the gaffer.
The Cherries brought in the 29-year-old from Norwich in 2016 for a decent sum of £7m and would be looking to earn a handsome profit if they are to sell him. Wolves might find some stiff competition from fellow Championship side Fulham who are also believed to be in the race for the forward.
But everything depends on Bournemouth and with Calum Wilson back to the fold the Cherries might entertain the possibility of letting Grabban leave but only for a hefty amount.
