Wolverhampton Wanderers are lining up an audacious bid for Panathinaikos midfielder, Robin Lod. The Bristol Post are reporting that Wolves are among a number of clubs who are looking to secure the services of the Finnish international. DH.be have claimed that the Panathinaikos midfielder’s contract expires next season and the player has already refused to sign a new deal with the Greek club who are running the risk of losing him on the cheap.
Some sources have even reported that a fee in the region of £440,000 would be enough to convince the Greek giants as they are in dire need to sell in order to address some of their financial problems. It is being touted that both Bristol City and Belgian side, Standard Liege have joined in on the race for the former HJK Helsinki player.
Robin Lod is a highly versatile midfielder who has a knack for scoring important goals, which is evident from his excellent performances for Panathinaikos in the Europa League qualifiers this season. Both Bristol City and Wolverhampton Wanderers are on course to secure promotion this season with the Wolves currently leading the English Championship by four points. The 24-year-old is regarded as one of Finnish football’s best young midfielders and was considered as the best player on the Under-21 side in the previous years.
The Wolves are now looking to recruit him in the January transfer window and given his talents, Nuno Espírito Santo will do well to secure his services. Robin Lod has made 120 appearances for HJK Helsinki where he scored 21 goals while also making 17 assists. He also had a brief spell on loan at Vaasan Palloseura where he scored twice in 11 matches.
In the summer of 2015, the Finnish footballer finally put pen to paper on a three-year deal with Panathinaikos. Since joining the Greek Super League, he has featured in 85 games for Panathinaikos and has 9 goals and 8 assists to his name. The versatile midfielder has also earned 19 caps for the Finland national team and has scored three international goals for his country.
Wolverhampton Wanderers can ensure Premier League qualification if they are successful in adding someone as experienced as Robin Lod in January. The midfielder can give their squad a much-needed boost that is required to make a final push towards promotion in the dying embers of the season. He looks like a bargain, especially considering Panathinaikos’ low asking price. It is no wonder that multiple clubs are lining up for his signature with the competition set to heat up even more in the next few months.
